Physician-Led Pain Management
A thoughtful medical approach to acupuncture for pain. Pain5.ca provides physician-led acupuncture for appropriate pain conditions in Prince Edward Island. Each patient is considered individually, and acupuncture is provided only where the physician determines that it is clinically appropriate.
Pain deserves thoughtful attention.
Persistent or recurring pain can affect far more than one part of the body. It can influence movement, work, recreation, sleep and day-to-day wellbeing. Pain5.ca provides an opportunity to discuss your pain with a physician and determine whether physician-provided acupuncture may be an appropriate component of your pain-management strategy.
Physician-Led
Acupuncture is provided by a physician licensed to practise medicine in Prince Edward Island. The physician determines whether acupuncture is clinically appropriate for each patient.
Individualized
Treatment is considered according to your medical circumstances, pain presentation and treatment goals.
Focused
Pain5.ca is being developed specifically around physician-led pain-management services.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture involves the careful placement of very fine needles at selected points on the body. It is used in a variety of healthcare settings and may be considered as one component of pain management for selected patients.
At Pain5.ca, acupuncture is provided by a physician. Before treatment, the physician considers your health information, the nature of your pain and whether acupuncture is appropriate for you.
Not every patient or pain condition is suitable for acupuncture.
The physician may recommend that treatment not proceed, or that you seek another form of medical assessment or care.

Pain5.ca provides services privately only where private payment is appropriate. The availability of a private service does not mean that every requested medical service can be purchased privately.
Acupuncture is an uninsured service under the PEI Health Services Payment Act Regulations. Pain5.ca charges privately only for services that may lawfully be provided on a private-pay basis. If the treating physician determines that you require an insured medical service, diagnostic assessment or another publicly insured healthcare service, that service will not be sold privately through Pain5.ca.
Pain5.ca does not sell preferential access to publicly insured physician services.

Why physician-led acupuncture?
Pain can be complex. A physician brings medical training and clinical judgment to the assessment of whether acupuncture is appropriate for an individual patient. Pain5.ca's model keeps that decision where it belongs: between the patient and the treating physician.
